• Lake Petenwell is Wisconsin’s second largest body of water (23,000+ Acres) and is also known as Petenwell flowage. Fish include musky, panfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye

  

  and catfish.

• Castle Rock Lake is Wisconsin’s fourth largest lake, and is known for its sandy shorelines, which makes for great swimming, skiing and leisure boating. It connects to Petenwell Lake. Visitors have access to the lake from public boat landings and public beaches. Fishing is great, with musky, panfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, sturgeon and catfish.

  

• Wisconsin River — The Wisconsin River was the canoe route for the Winnebago and Chippewa tribes and, later, the French voyagers. Several area establishments offer canoe rentals, as well as bait and all the supplies you will need on your own voyage. River tubing trips are available 15 minutes away in Mauston with two different operators, Sandy Shores Tubing and Point Bluff Tubing.

• Buckhorn State Park is a 6,990-acre Wisconsin state park southeast of Necedah. The park occupies a peninsula on Castle Rock Lake, a reservoir formed at the confluence of the Wisconsin and Yellow Rivers.

• Yellow River Wildlife Area is a 2,188-acre property contiguous to Buckhorn State Park and Buckhorn Wildlife Area located on Castle Rock Lake in east-central Juneau County off of Highway G. Yellow River Wildlife Area is located to the north and west of the State Park Boundary, on the north side of Highway G. The Yellow River Wildlife Area offers many recreational opportunities.

• Necedah National Wildlife Refuge is close to Castle Rock Lake, located just west of Necedah, WI. 54646. The refuge is a little under 70 square miles of wildlife habitat with 6 Trails, several named bodies of water including: Goose Pool,

  

  Sprague Pool, Harvey Pond, Suk Flowage, Cerney Flowage, Mather Flowage, Yellow River, Rynearson Flowage and more.

• Quincy Bluff and Wetlands Wildlife Area is a great place to hike — the scenic views from the top of the bluff are well worth the climb. In the winter, the wide trails are ideal for cross-country skiing.
